Meeting with the Bishops of San Francisco: Presentation of Proposal
A Gathering of Clergy Abuse Survivors

This gathering was the sixth in a series of meetings for survivors of clergy abuse, secondary survivors, and supporters in the San Francisco/Bay Area/Northern California region. Like the others before it, this meeting was hosted by the Victims Assistance Office of the San Francisco Archdiocese and facilitated by an independent psychotherapist with no affiliation to the Catholic Church. The purpose and intent of this meeting was to present to the bishops a unified proposal that focused on ways to strengten, support and promote the healing process. With feedback and suggestions from survivors and the bishops, it was decided that the proposal would be refined and a final draft re-submitted to the bishops to consider. The meeting was held in San Francisco, California, at The Collins Center. SafeNet co-founders Paul Fericano and John McCord attended this meeting.

This gathering was the fifth in a series of meetings for survivors of clergy abuse, secondary survivors, and supporters in the San Francisco/Bay Area/Northern California region.  Like the others before it, this meeting was hosted by the Victims Assistance Office of the San Francisco Archdiocese and facilitated by an independent psychotherapist with no affiliation to the Catholic Church. The purpose and intent of this meeting was to review two separate proposals that focused on healing issues and agree to combine them into one proposal that would be presented to the bishops at another meeting. An ad hoc committee of six survivors drafted the nucleus of a proposal that would later be added to, refined.and adopted. The meeting was held in San Francisco, California, at Mercy High School. SafeNet co-founder John McCord attended this meeting.

Meeting with the Bishops of the San Francsico Archdiocese
A Gathering of Clergy Abuse Survivors
October 16, 2010
 
A follow up meeting with the bishops of the San Francisco Archdiocese for those who attended "The Fall Gathing of Clergy Abuse Survivors" on September 18, 2010, was held on October 16, 2010 in Belmont, California.  The bishops in attendance were Archbishop George Niederauer, Bishop William Justice, and newly appointed auxiliary bishop, Robert McElroy.
 
Note: The meeting with the bishops of the San Francisco Archdiocese is part of an ongoing series of meetings for survivors of clergy abuse, secondary survivors, and supporters in the San Francisco/Bay Area/Northern California region. "The Fall Gathering of Clergy Abuse Survivors" in September was the first meeting. It orginated in committee and was composed of survivors of clergy abuse and their supporters, and sponsored by the Victims Assistance Office of the San Francisco Archdiocese.
 
All meetings are hosted by the Victims Assistance Office of the San Francisco Archdiocese. and facilitated by independent psychotherapists with no affiliation to the Catholic Church. Whenever possible the meetings are held in a secular setting to ensure trust and safety and the maximum participation of all who wish to attend. The purpose and intent of these meetings is to bring people together to dialogue, listen, exchange ideas, support one another and to promote healing.

A Fall Gathering of Clergy Abuse Survivors
September 18, 2010
 
A gathering of clergy abuse survivors, hosted by the Victims Assistance Office of the San Francisco Archdiocese, took place on Saturday, September 18, 2010, in Belmont, California. The gathering was held in a secular setting and co-facilitated by psychotherapists unaffiliated with the Catholic Church. Lunch was provided, followed by a group discussion. SafeNet co-founders, Paul Fericano and John McCord, attended as participants.

Olan Horne, a clergy abuse survivor who met privately with Pope Benedict XVI on his trip to the United States in April, 2008, gave a series of talks in Santa Barbara in June, 2008. These talks were co-sponsored by SafeNet and the Franciscan Office of Pastoral Outreach.
